To get people to donate, you need to be persistent with your efforts, creative with your approach, and passionate about giving back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luckily, Isabel Baetsen, the Facilities Manager at Loblaws, is all three of those things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why when an opportunity came up to take point on a two-week employee fundraiser for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.presidentschoice.ca\/en_CA\/community\/pccc.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">President\u2019s Choice Children\u2019s Charity<\/a>, she jumped at the chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an internal charity event that happens every year at Loblaws, and it\u2019s an important part of the company\u2019s culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this year, Isabel wanted to try something different to help them set the bar higher than ever before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She decided to turn the fundraiser into a competition between the different departments at Loblaws. Each group of employees would try to raise more money than their coworkers before the two-week period was up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only problem? Isabel needed to figure out some sort of incentive that would help motivate the teams to get competitive with their efforts. It had to be something fun and exciting\u2026that wouldn\u2019t use up all of their budget. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201c<em>Every year, our office has a two-week fundraiser for the President\u2019s Choice Children\u2019s Charity. It\u2019s a great cause, supporting kids in need living across the country. This year, my idea was to make it more of a competition between the departments, led by the different Directors\u2026I called it the \u2018Director\u2019s Pledge.\u2019 Whichever team raised the most money would win a prize.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-solution-using-free-team-building-activities-as-an-incentive-for-fundraising\"><br>THE SOLUTION \u2013 Using free team building activities as an incentive for fundraising<\/h4>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"quick-facts-2\">Quick Facts:<\/h5>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Three free team building activities, courtesy of the\u00a0<a href=\"\/about\/we-care\/\">Outback Cares<\/a>\u00a0program<\/li><li>Event organizers offered the team building activities to the departments who raised the most money<\/li><li>Each department became more competitive and creative with their fundraising<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><br>One of Isabel\u2019s colleagues told her about&nbsp;<a href=\"\/about\/we-care\/\">Outback Cares<\/a>, a program offered by Outback Team Building &amp; Training to help fundraising efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Outback Cares, organizations can get a free team building activity to help them raise money for a charitable cause. It\u2019s perfect for silent auctions, company raffles, charity galas, and fundraising challenges like this one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isabel spoke with her Employee Engagement Consultant at Outback, and he helped her secure three free activities for her fundraiser via the Outback Cares program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Isabel, this was great news! She announced the prizes at the start of the fundraiser: the top three teams who raised the most money would be able to go on a free team building experience outside of the office with their group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, employees started to get competitive right away, and began looking for unique ways to try and win the prize. One department put on a mini-golf event to raise money, while another sold food and snacks throughout the office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isabel was happy to see that not only were employees having a lot of fun with their fundraising efforts this year, but they were managing to raise more money at the same time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201c<em>At the end of the day, the fact that we were helping children was the most important thing. But it was great to have that little extra incentive for the different departments. The prizes helped to bring out the competitiveness of people, and it was definitely exciting because everyone knew the stakes were those team building packages.<\/em>&#8220;<br><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-results-a-new-fundraising-record-for-the-team-at-loblaws\"><br>THE RESULTS \u2013 A new fundraising record for the team at Loblaws<\/h4>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"quick-facts-3\">Quick Facts:<\/h5>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$18,000 raised for the President\u2019s Choice Children\u2019s Charity in two weeks<\/li><li>20% increase in fundraising when compared to last year<\/li><li>\u201c10\/10\u201d feedback on the team building activities from employees who participated<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><br>By the end of the two weeks, the employees at Loblaws managed to raise over $18,000 for the President\u2019s Choice Children\u2019s Charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isabel says that\u2019s about a 20% increase from the amount they raised last year! She credits the team building incentive as a big reason for that jump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the end, the winning departments decided to go on smartphone scavenger hunts, such as the&nbsp;<a href=\"\/team-building\/wild-goose-chase\/\">Wild Goose Chase<\/a>. And they had only positive feedback to say about the experience:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201c<em>This activity really promoted teamwork and camaraderie to all of our members,<\/em>\u201d said Janice Reyes-Imus, Senior Financial Analyst at Loblaws. She rated the experience a \u201c<em>10\/10.<\/em>\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>As for Isabel, she says she is already looking forward to next year\u2019s fundraiser. She hopes she\u2019ll be able to raise the bar once again for such a great cause. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cTo see people coming alive with the fundraising was great. They were all trying to win and doing their best to beat the other departments.
